Happy Birthday Jan Brett - December 1

Happy Birthday Jan Brett - December 1, 1949

There are times when celebrating an author's birthday ties perfectly into the time of year. Lois Ehlert's birthday fell at a time when squirrels were busy gathering nuts and birds were beginning to come to our fall bird feeders here in Ohio. It was prefect to read her books on those topics to celebrate her birthday. Also, when December 1st comes around it is the perfect time to celebrate Jan Brett's birthday and the upcoming holiday season.

There are many books by Jan Brett that focus on the holiday season. They were even compiled into a treasury book that might be a great Christmas gift. Jan Brett's Christmas Treasury includes the following 7 stories: The Mitten, The Wild Christmas Reindeer, Trouble with Trolls, The Twelve Days of Christmas, The Hat, Christmas Trolls, and The Night Before Christmas.

I remember preparing my lesson plans and activities to accompany the author birthday celebrations. I often had difficulty finding ideas for those lessons. However, there are no shortage of ideas for the Jan Brett birthday celebration. Just head on over to JanBrett.com and you will find loads of activities. There is even a great video page that shows Jan Brett demonstrating how to draw many of the characters in her books.

Usually, I write more, but why waste your time. Check out JanBrett.com and snoop around for some great activities or check out some of her other books.
